Only those already employed as clinical coders working within an NHS trust or an independent sector treatment centre, or a clinical coder who has previously passed the Clinical Coding Standards Course (CCSC) and is working as a contract clinical coder (and therefore may not be in employment at the time of attendance on a course - for example, Clinical Coding Standards Refresher Course or CCSRC) is entitled to attend national clinical coding training courses. However, staff may also use alternative training systems or local materials, provided that they cover the learning objectives of the Core Skills Training Framework and have been approved by the Senior Information Risk Officer (SIRO).Ĭlinical coding has a set standard for the time frames and levels of training required. Staff can access the Data Security Awareness Level 1 session through the national e-learning for healthcare hub (elfh) or the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). Although the standard states “all staff”, it is recognised that a percentage of staff may be unavailable for the training (for example, due to maternity/paternity leave or long-term sickness). Where required, staff should be given support to their understanding of data security issues in order to pass the test.Īt least 95% of all staff have completed their annual Data Security Awareness training in the last 12 months. All staff must also pass a mandatory test, such as the test associated with the National Data Security Awareness Level 1 session.
